Dickens' all important novels with some important details.
1. Pickwick Papers :
* It was Dickens's debut novel.
* This novel appeared in monthly instalments in 1836 and in book form in 1837.
* The novel contains a large number of characacters, about 350 in number.
* Some important characters of this book are Mr. Pickwick, Sam Weller, Mr. Stiggins, Mr. Jingle, Dodson, Fogg etc.
2. Oliver Twist :
* The novel was published in 1839.
* The novel is a nightmare book, the nightmare of a persecuted child.
* Dickens in this book shows that the Poor Law Reform Act had only strengthened institutionalism by giving authority to unkindness.
* The novel is pregnant with symbols. Mr. Bumble represrnts all selfish dispensers of public charity and Oliver Twist their helpless victims.
* Important characters of this book are Oliver Twist, Mr. Bumble, Monks, Sikes, Nancy, Charley Bates, Fagin, Noya Claypole.

3. Nicholas Nickleby :
*This novel was also published in 1839.
*Dickens's main intention behind this book was to reveal the atrocious state of things existing in the private school of Yorkshire.
* The important characters of tjis book are Mr. Squeers, Nicholas Nickleby, Ralph Nickleby, Kate, Sir Mulberry Hawk, Lord Frederick Verisopht, and Madeline Bray.
4. Barnaby Rudge :
* This novel was published in 1840-41.
* This is Dickens's first historical novel, with a plot hingeing upon the mystery of a crime conmitted a quarter of a century earlier,the sequel to which is intertwined with the sensational story of the Gordon Riots(1870).
* Dickens here has made a blending og Gothic romance and picturesque element.
5. The Old Curiosity Shop :
*This novel was also published in 1840-41.
* The main characters of the novel are-- Little Nell, Dick Swiveller, the Marchoiness, Codlin Short, Mrs. Jarley, Cheggs, Chuckster, Kit Nubbles, Sally Brass, Quilp.
6. Martin Chuzzlewit :
* The nobel was published in 1844.
* The novel is enriched with farce to the purest humour, and melodrama to tragedy.
* Dickens here makes full use of his American experiences, with the result that the scene if the story is set partly in America and partly in England.
* The important characters of this book are Mrs. Sairey Gamp, Mr. Pecksniff, Mark Tapley, Tom Pinch, Mr. Mould, Mrs. Todgers, Mr. Jefferson Brick, Mrs. Hominy, Elijah Program, Mr. Zephaniah Scadder, Colonel Diver and many others.
7. Dombey and Son :
* This novel was published in 1848.
* This is Dickens's first novel where he uses the society as a whole as his subject.
* The central theme of the book is pride and its nemesis, as expounded in the history of Dombey's greatness and his fall.
* Major characters of the book are Mr. Dombey, Paul, Florence, Walter Gay, Solomon Gills, Cuttle, Joe Bagstock, Cousin Feenix.
8. David Copperfield :
* This novel was published in 1850.
* This was Dickens's favourite among his writings. He wrote in his preface to the 1869 edition of the novel,
"Of all my books,I like this the best...
........like many fond parents, I have in my heart of hearts a favourite child. And his name is David Copperfield."
* This novel us a tale of ups and downs, joys and sorrows.
* This is mainly an autobiographical novel.
*Notable characters of this book ate David Copperfield, Mr. and Mrs. Micawber, Miss Betsey Trotwood, Dora, Agnes, Murdstone, Uriah Heep and so on.
9. Bleak House :
* This novel was published in 1853.
* This novel was Dickens's most elaborate and effective attack upon the delays and inequities of the law.
* It is definitely a novel of purpose.
* Important characters of tjis book are Richard Carstone, Ada Clare, Esther Summerson, Sir Leicester Dedlock, Captain Rawdon, Tulkinghorn, Bucket, John Jarndyce, and Woodcourt.
10. Hard Times :
* The novel was published in 1853.
* In this novel, Dickens also attacks some of the evils afflicting Victorian society.
