What does the speaker in Tennyson's Ulysses mean by "I am a part of all I met" ?
This is a part of the monologue of Ulysses by Lord Tennyson's poem after the same name. These words express the great hero's wide experience and knowledge.
Ulysses asserts that he has always been willing to see and know more and more. He has visited different lands and come across the men, manners, climates and goverments of various places. He considers himself as the part of all things which he met, before. Actually, Ulysses has visited in all countries, he was praised as an important person and was suitably honoured.
The line suggests 'Man grows with experience and therefore its product.' Ulysses means to say that his present character is made up of elements drawn from his varied life.
