Important points about Ralph Waldo Emerson and his writing.

* He was born in 1803 and died in 1882.

* He is one of the major American philosophers, transcendentalists and essayists.

* He was a minister and a necessary part of Harvard University.

* He has written many important essays which have proved themselves as the very important documents of the then time and also of the present time.

* Emerson says that- "I am not against logic, but instinct is better."

*His essays are--

1) Self-Reliance(1841)

* The theme of the essay is "Trust yourself, you will be able to make the best decision."

* Important line to be remembered from the essay is- "A man must be a non-conformist, nothing is sacred apart from our mind."

* Here he asks everyone not to pray.

* In this essay, it is also expressed that he believes, travelling is a superstition.

2) Nature (1836)

* Important line from the essay is- "Nature always wears the colours of the spirit".

3) American Scholar (1837)

* It is an interesting story of an American scholar who is finding the truth of Christianity.

4) Divinity School Address (1838)


* It is an essay which is an attack on religion.

* The important themes are individualism, autonomic, self-reliance, obligation to folk etc. 

* Important line from the essay is- "We are all a part of one spirit, the world is a part of God."
