Sentence and Its Kinds:
Definition:
A sentence is a group of words which has a complete meaning and also has a finite verb within it.
Examples:
1) They are my friends.
2) The sky is blue in colour.
3) Are you ready for our trip?
Classification:
There are five kinds of sentences:
1) Assertive Sentence
2) Interrogative Sentence
3) Imperative Sentence
4) Optative Sentence
5) Exclamatory Sentence
Now I will discuss each and every kind of sentences with examples.
(1) Assertive Sentence:
An assertive sentence is a statement or a declaration. It always ends with a full stop(.).
Examples:
i) The sun rises in the east.
ii) They always go to school.
iii) I love my school.
iv) Computer and laptop are the modern inventions.
(2) Interrogative Sentence:
An Interrogative sentence is a question sentence through which we ask questions or enquire about something.
It always ends with a question mark(?).
Examples:
i) Are you going there?
ii) Is she your friend?
iii) Do you know my name?
iv) Have you ever seen me before?
(3) Imperative Sentence:
An imperative sentence is used to make a command or order, a request or an advice.
Here we generally don't use the subject. It is omitted here.
Examples:
i) Do or die.
ii) please give me a pen.
iii) Obey your parents.
iv) Open the book.
(4) Optative Sentence:
An optative sentence is used generally to suggest a wish, a desire or hope.
Examples:
i) May God bless you.
ii) May your wishes come true.
iii) I wish I were a bird.
(5) Exclamatory Sentence:
This type of sentences are used to express our sudden feelings like happiness, sorrow, surprise, shock etc.
It generally has a exclamation mark within it.
Examples:
i) What a beautiful picture it is!
ii) Hurrah! I have won the competition.
iii) Alas! He is no more.
