Thinking about the text:
1) Who does Lencho have complete faith in? Which sentences in the story tell you this.
Ans: Lencho have complete faith in God.
The sentences which express this are as follows:-
i) But in the hearts of all who lived in that solitary house in the middle of the valley, there was a single hope: help from God.
ii) "God", he wrote " if you don't help me , my family and I will go hungry this year".
iii) He wrote 'To God' on the envelope put the letter inside, and still troubled, went to town.
iv) It said: "God of the money that I asked for , only 70 pesos reached me since I need it very much. But don't send it to me through the mail because the post office employees are a bunch of crooks. Lencho"
2) Why does the postmaster send money to Lencho? Why does he sign the letter 'God'?
Ans:- The postmaster did not want to shake the writer's faith in God. So the postmaster came up with an idea that he will send the money to Lencho. Then he ask for money from employees and he himself gave part of his salary and several friends of his obiliged to give something 'for an act of charity'.
The postmaster signed the letter as God because he did not want to break lencho's faith in God and also it convey a message that God had himself written in the letter.
3) Did Lencho try to find out who had sent the money to him? why or why not?
Ans:- No, Lencho did not try to find out who had sent the money to him because of his much confidence in God. He believed that God had sent him the money. He never suspected that it could be someone else other than God who would send him the money.
4) Who does lencho think has taken the rest of the money? What is the irony of the situation?
Ans:- Lencho thinks that the rest of the money has taken by the post office employees.
The irony of the situation is that the staffs of the office who sent the money to Lencho but Lencho thinks that they have stolen the money. So, he calls them crook. That is the ironical situation in the story.
5) Are there people like lencho in the real world? What kind of a person would you say he is? You may select appropriate words from the box to answer the question.
Ans:- I don't think there can be such type of people like Lencho in the real world. Lencho is much educated yet he does not know how his letter will reach God without any address.
6) There are two kinds of conflict in the story between humans and nature, and between humans themselves. How are these conflicts illustrated?
Ans:- The conflict between humans and nature is created by the destruction of Lencho's crops by the hail storm. The crops destroyed by the hail, Lencho started feeling sad and gloomy after the storm significantly Shows the conflict of nature and the man. The story also presents another conflict between human themselves. The postmaster along with the help of the other staffs send the collected money to Lencho. They were not related to lencho in any manner. It was an act of charity and kindness on their part. But lencho blamed them that they took some money from his letter. This reflects the mistrust between human beings also.
