What is Pink
Summary and central theme of the poem, "What is Pink" by Christina Rossetti.
If we read the poem, it seems like it's a very easy and funny poem which only talks about different colours and their examples. Though it's a kind of nursery poem, but it has a deep meaning inside it. The poet here wants to show us how beautifully God has created this world for us.
Everything in this world is created by the God and He also has put colours in every single object to make it more beautiful and attractive. He wants to give us a glimpse of heaven where we can go in our lifetime. So He makes this beautiful peaceful world for us.
Now comes to the literal summary of the poem. The poet here introduces various colours. In the very beginning, she talks about pink. For example, she says rose is pink in colour which we can find in the brink of edge of fountain. Then she talks about red. She says, poppy is beautiful for its red colour. It is found in the barley field. For introducing blue colour, the poet uses the easiest way, she says the sky is blue in colour where the clouds are always floating in their own wish. For white, she uses the example of swan which is completely white in colour when it is swimming on the water in the day light. Peers are yellow which are rich in vitamins and very tasty when riped. For the green colour, she uses the example from the mother nature, the grasses are green in colour and it looks more and more beautiful when there are flowers in between the grass. For introducing violet colour, the poet uses an unusual example, she says clouds are violet in colour. But of course the poet mentions a time. She says in the time of twilight, the clouds become violet because of the changing of the light as it is going to be dark from the daylight. At last the poet talks about the orange colour. But it is interesting to note that she does not use any other example but an orange. She says the fruit orange is the best example to describe the orange colour, why should we find any other example.
That's how the poet in a very simple, but effective way, presents a beautiful picture of the mother nature. It is also kind of tribute to the God who has created all these beautiful things.
